Our Story

In 2005

The Executive Committee of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines & Agriculture (NACCIMA) on December 7, established the NACCIMA Women’s Business group (NAWORG), as one of its Trade Groups to serve as a dynamic voice for women on critical business issues and legislation. The group plays a crucial role in orchestrating the activities of women within the Chamber’s scope and extends its reach to women throughout the West African sub-region. The organization was a pivotal initiative dedicated to coordinating the activities of women within the Chamber Movement.

Since its formation, NAWORG has been actively involved in a range of activities both within Nigeria and across the ECOWAS sub-region. Its notable endeavors include organizing trade missions to Liberia, participation in the Nigeria – Benin joint trade fair, conducting workshops for women in the West African sub-region, and involvement in the 1st ECOWAS business summit in Accra, Ghana, as well as the Joint Trade Fair with the Republic of Benin.

Building on this rich history, NAWORG has evolved into the Women Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Agriculture (WCCIMA), signalling a strategic shift towards a more comprehensive and specialized approach to empowering women in commerce and industry. WCCIMA draws its strength from its roots in NACCIMA, the umbrella organization for chambers of commerce, industry, mines, and agriculture in Nigeria. The evolution from NAWORG to WCCIMA signifies a commitment to continuity, building on a legacy of almost 20 years of coordinating women’s activities within the Chamber Movement.

Our New Mandate

The Women Chamber of Commerce Industry Mines and Industry emerges as a catalyst for women’s empowerment, rooted in a rich history, driven by a powerful mission, and strengthened by strategic partnerships. WCCIMA is positioned to shape a future where women not only succeed but also play an integral role in shaping the narrative of commerce and industry, both on the national and international stages.

Through focused initiatives, advocacy, and collaborative efforts, our goal is to pave the way for women entrepreneurs and professionals to not only thrive but also make substantial contributions to economic advancement and development. We are committed to creating a future where women break barriers and become pivotal players in the economic landscape.

The primary objective of the WCCIMA is to create an environment that supports and empowers women entrepreneurs and professionals. It aims to achieve gender-inclusive business environments by offering tailored resources, networking opportunities, and mentorship programs, as well as advocating for women-owned businesses. The WCCIMA will also be a platform for policy advocacy related to the success of women-owned businesses.

ALIGNMENT WITH SDGs

The Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry is deeply committed to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically focusing on goals 5, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, and 17. Our dedication lies in empowering female entrepreneurs, fostering an inclusive and equitable business environment that aligns with Goal 5 – Gender Equality. We strive to promote sustained, inclusive economic growth (Goal 8), innovation and infrastructure (Goal 9), and reduced inequalities (Goal 10). Our activities also emphasize responsible consumption and production (Goal 12) and taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts (Goal 13). Recognizing the power of partnerships (Goal 17), we collaborate with various stakeholders to create a more sustainable future, leveraging our collective strength to make a lasting impact on women’s entrepreneurship and beyond. Through these focused efforts, we aim to contribute significantly to the global agenda for sustainable development, ensuring that female entrepreneurs are key drivers of this transformative change.
